TERMS & CONDITIONS
1. Introduction

These Terms and Conditions govern applications for, and participation in, the Helping Dreams Take Flight Scholarship Programme, which includes Powered Flying Scholarships and Gliding Scholarships. By applying for or accepting an award, applicants agree to be bound by these Terms.

Helping Dreams Take Flight (“The Charity”) is a UK-registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The Charity provides aviation scholarships to support new entrants into aviation regardless of background, with a particular aim to widen opportunity and accessibility.
These Terms may be updated periodically. The version in force at the time of application will apply.

2. Scholarships Offered

Helping Dreams Take Flight offers:

• 5-Hour Powered Flying Scholarships, providing five hours of dual flight instruction at approved UK flying schools.
• Gliding Scholarships, providing introductory or early solo-progression gliding training at approved UK gliding clubs.

No cash alternative is available. Scholarships are non-transferable and may not be sold or exchanged. If awarded candidates are unable to complete the Scholarship, the Charity reserves the right to re-issue any remaining balance of the award to another candidate.

3. Eligibility

Applicants must:
• Be resident in the United Kingdom at the time of application.
• Be at least 16 years old for powered flying, or 14 years old for gliding.
• Be medically fit to fly or glide, and able to obtain or hold the appropriate medical declaration (such as a CAA Class 2 Medical or NPPL medical declaration for powered flying, or self-declaration for gliding).
• Demonstrate clear enthusiasm and motivation for aviation.
The Charity encourages applications from individuals who may not otherwise have the financial means or opportunity to access aviation training. Selection aims to be as inclusive as possible, recognising that passion and aptitude for aviation can come from a wide range of backgrounds. The application process will be fair and consistent with the Equality Act 2010. If you require reasonable adjustments at any stage, or have questions about the application process, please email us at info@helpingdreamstakeflight.com.

4. Application and Selection

Applications must be submitted through the official application process by the published closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.

The selection process may include:
• Written applications
• Interviews (online or in person)
• Additional assessment where appropriate

The Charity aims to ensure fairness, equality and transparency throughout the process. The decision of the trustees and selection panel is final.
Applicants selected for a scholarship must satisfy themselves that they are prepared and able to undertake training to the standard required for their award. Any concerns should be discussed with The Charity before the award is accepted.

5. Training Organisations (TOs)

Training is delivered exclusively by approved UK flight schools, Approved Training Organisations (ATOs), Declared Training Organisations (DTOs), or gliding clubs (collectively referred to as “Training Organisations”).

The Charity is not a training organisation and does not provide flight instruction. All instruction, assessment, safety decisions and course delivery are the responsibility of the Training Organisation and its qualified personnel.

Decisions relating to a scholar’s ability, progress, fitness to fly, or continuation of training rest solely with the Training Organisation and, where relevant, the appropriate medical practitioner.

Any agreement between Helping Dreams Take Flight and a Training Organisation requires that the TO maintain appropriate public liability insurance, and comply fully with all relevant statutory and CAA regulatory obligations.

6. Risk and Safety

Participation in flight training involves inherent risk. By accepting a scholarship, scholars accept and acknowledge the associated risks and agree to comply with all safety instructions, procedures and guidance from their instructors and Training Organisation.

Scholars must not fly if unwell, fatigued, or otherwise unable to operate safely, and should raise any concerns with their instructor or the Chief Flying Instructor immediately.

The Training Organisation may curtail or stop training if it considers it unsafe to continue. The Charity may also withdraw or curtail training in the interests of safety, public protection, or the well-being of the scholar. Such decisions are final.

7. Nature of the Scholarship and Unused Hours

The Powered Flying Scholarship covers five hours of dual instruction including aircraft hire, instructor fees, fuel and landing fees. The Gliding Scholarship covers launches, glider hire, instruction and temporary club membership.

Training must be completed within twelve months of the award unless otherwise agreed.

If a scholar is unable to complete their allocated hours, or where hours remain unused after the required period, the unused portion may be returned to the charity and redistributed to another eligible individual. No compensation or payment is offered in such circumstances.

8. Conduct and Behaviour

Scholars must represent Helping Dreams Take Flight and its partners professionally and respectfully. Scholars must:

• Attend training punctually
• Follow all safety instructions
• Respect staff, instructors and other students
• Keep the charity informed of training progress
Failure to comply may result in suspension or withdrawal of the award.

9. Progress Monitoring

The Charity may request updates from both the Scholar and the Training Organisation regarding progress and attendance. Scholars are expected to maintain reasonable contact during their training.

Where difficulties arise, the issue should first be raised with the Training Organisation. If unresolved, the Charity will assist where appropriate, though responsibility for instruction always remains with the Training Organisation.

10. Liability

Except where prohibited by law, Helping Dreams Take Flight accepts no liability for:
• Loss, injury, or damage of any kind (direct, indirect, consequential, or otherwise) arising from participation in flight or gliding training
• Any decision, action, or inaction taken by a Training Organisation
Scholars may wish to consider obtaining personal accident or travel insurance for additional protection.

11. Media, Publicity and Data Protection

By accepting a scholarship, scholars agree to provide the Charity with, and consent to reasonable use of their photographs, video, first-name details, story and training progress by the Charity and its partners for publicity, reporting, and promotional purposes. Applicants under 18 require parental consent.

Personal data will be handled in accordance with UK GDPR and the Charity’s Privacy Policy. Data will be used only for administering scholarships and will be shared only with trustees, assessors and Training Organisations involved in the programme.

12. Withdrawal or Termination

A scholarship may be withdrawn if:
• The Scholar provides misleading information;
• Safety or medical concerns arise that impact the Scholar’s ability to complete the training;
• The Scholar’s conduct is inappropriate or unprofessional;
• The Training Organisation determines that continuation is not viable.

In the event that a Training Organisation is unable to accommodate a Scholar for the full duration of training, The Charity will work with the affected Scholar to transfer them to another suitable partner TO for the remainder of the award.

Decisions relating to withdrawal or termination are final. No financial compensation is available.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
