Meet Our 2026 Scholars: Rebekah Nelson
An aspiring flight instructor from West Lothian, Rebekah has completed her Helping Dreams Take Flight gliding scholarship in Kinross.

How it started
Rebekah came to us already nine hours into microlight training at Perth. She runs an Instagram page documenting her flying, with the aim of inspiring more women into aviation.
"Aviation should be a space where dedication and effort matter more than your background." – Rebekah
Coach and role model
Rebekah is a qualified gymnastics coach, and says coaching is what sparked her love of teaching and inspiring others. She is a member of the Air League, the British Women Pilots' Association and Scottish Aero Club.
Funding gaps had made her lessons inconsistent, so this scholarship was her first formal opportunity to try gliding.
Her scholarship – completed
Rebekah has now completed her gliding scholarship at the Scottish Gliding Centre in Kinross. We travelled up to Scotland to visit her and see her training first-hand. It was fantastic to spend time with her, hear how she was getting on and see what she achieved.
What's next
Rebekah's goal is to become a flight instructor and make flying feel welcoming for everyone, whatever their background. She wants to keep progressing in gliding towards her Bronze and cross-country endorsements, and work towards her PPL and instructor qualifications.
Every one of our 2026 scholarships was made possible by the generosity of our supporters, including SkyDemon. Thank you for helping dreams take flight.
